PGLRE #33: Creating Equity for the Community Through Real Estate with Ashley McMichael

On episode 33 of Pretty Girls Love Real Estate, I chat with Ashley McMichael, founder of the Innovative Academy of Liberal Art and Sciences, an organization that provides education and opportunities for students and families in the areas of science, technology, entrepreneurship, arts, and mental health in the Ward 7 neighborhood of Washington, DC.

During our conversation we discussed:

  • her background in medicine, physiology, and biology and how it fueled her passion to help more youth of color gain knowledge in these areas

  • applying for grants and other forms of funding for her non-profit

  • her experience as a member of the Open Access Fellowship which seeks to get more minorities in the world of community development finance

  • the power of federal and state programs like LIHTC (Low income housing tax credits) and NMTC (new market tax credits) to revitalize communities and create more affordable housing

Book Recommendations: Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
